Laughter, the best medicine

It really is. It not only drives off chaos and desolation, but also make us feel rejuvenated in a flash. Speaking of laughter, my favorite comedian is none other than “Vaigai Puyal” Vadivelu sir. This man stopped acting almost half a decade back and still rules the entertainment industry and the meme world through his spectacular range of emotions. Name any humane feeling, there’s got to be a Vadivelu meme template for it.

Some of his many outstanding characters include Contractor Nesamani, Kaipulla, Pichumani, Naai Sekar, Encounter Ekambaram, Vandu Murugan, Telex Pandian, Pulikesi, Body soda, Soona Paana, Vedimuthu, Ayyachami, Bannerjee, Bullet Pandi — the list is endless.

His impact on our lives is so deep that many of us tend to unconsciously use his dialogues in our day to day lives. Here are some of them at a glimpse — When you’re amidst a notorious gang, and they all team up against you and end up mocking you relentlessly, all you could ever think of would be “Enna vachi comedy keemedy panlaye?” (Are you freaking kidding me?).When you have been driven almost crazy by an exhaustingly mundane task and you decide to finally give up, you breathe a sigh of relief, saying “Aaniye pudunga venam!”(That task is just not worth the pain). Even at serious circumstances, when life terrorizes you at the most unexpected moments, you could just go “Na apdeye shock aayiten!”(I was terribly shocked). When your pal betrays you for the silliest of things or brings you sudden distress , you would exclaim, “Maapu, vachutaanya aapu!”(he’s led me into trouble).

When you’re bored to the hilt from a tiresome lecture, you would turn to your benchmate, saying “Why blood? same blood!”(My ears are literally sick of that dreary noise that they’ve now begun to bleed. Is it the same with you as well?).When you clearly know that your friends are spinning up pointless tales without knowing that you might have already known the truth, and you just want to find out how the story ends, you don’t say “yes, go on”, instead, it would just be “Aahan!?”(with his perfect modulation, of course). These are just a teeny tiny fraction of all the wonderful comedies he has given us. Most of today’s youngsters, especially those from TN, can never imagine a life without Vadivelu references popping out every now and then.

He’s one of his kind, and his comedies are, and always will be unmatchable. Hope he gets back to acting and makes us laugh our hearts out real soon. 😄
